Today the wind called me outside. Answering the call I took a blanket and deposited it in on a mattress of pine needles out in the woods. The wind whispered through the trees gently bringing with it thoughts of randomness to my mind. Out there in the woods one of my random thoughts was that wilderness is God's sanctuary. I already knew this of course but my next thought was that if nature was God's sanctuary then Satan would make sure of some way to destroy it. He has been so successful in this plan. Look around you. There are not very many places that are truly silent from all noise of civilization. Even down at my grandparents place in Georgia (out in the middle of nowhere) you can still hear the highway that is miles away. More cities and roads are always being built.
The stillness and simplicity of the country has worked its way into my bloodstream so successfully that it can never been taken out. So, the idea of the Holy City in heaven as an actual city bothers me a little bit. I like to imagine enormous trees as city walls with vines hanging down to fill the gaps left between tree trunks. The palace is made of smaller trees with ivy crawling up the sides and exotic flowers winding in with colors never imagined. The main hallways are made of moss and the rest of the floors pine needles (of course without the sharp ends). Some of the walls are vines. Others are curtains of water coming from waterfalls above the palace that all join and flow under the Tree of Life a little ways from the city. Colorful birds fly through the air diving happily with their friends. Gold and jewels sparkle in the moss becoming more dazzling as you near the throne. There is no need for lights because God is the light and his glory filters through the palace creating spots of sunlight that move as the wind blows. Tigers leisurely pad through making the children playing squeal with glee. Sigh... such a wonderful thought.
That's the city I imagine though I think it may be more solid. Anything that God creates will be beautiful but if that's not how it is that's what my house to be like or maybe a log cabin.
